Frequently Asked Questions

Picture
How long have you been officiating weddings and how many wedding does Koru Ceremony officiate per year?
Koru Ceremony has been performing weddings since 2005 and has officiated hundreds of weddings.  We officiate close to 100 weddings per year.

How would you best describe Koru Ceremony Officiates?
We create a meaningful, one-of-a-kind ceremony that fit your personal style, honors your love story, and represents the life you are creating together.  Our biggest goal is that your ceremony will not feel like a cookie cutter or canned experience, but instead one that feels special and highly personal so that at the end of the day you say to yourselves, “that is exactly what we wanted to experience!”  This can look different for each couple, and that’s the joy of this process of getting to know you and writing a ceremony that reflects you and your relationship.

Each of us are also known for being a calming, centering presence, and we can help you relax and enjoy yourselves during the ceremony, rather than feeling nervous and distracted by the hubbub of a typical wedding day.

What are your fees?
Customized Wedding Ceremony - $598
Our most popular package, your customized wedding ceremony comes with the full complement of services and this fee covers anything from a simple to an elaborate ceremony.  A customized Charge to the Couple, which gives you the opportunity to share your love story with your guests can be added for an additional $150.

Weekday (Monday - Thursday) Ceremony - $450
Featuring the same level of customization we consider the standard at Koru Ceremony, our weekday wedding ceremonies are discounted approximately 25%.

Elopement & Short Notice Ceremony (6 Weeks or Less) - $375
These pre-written ceremonies only allow for some basic personalization.  A rehearsal is not included in the fee, but a quick walk through 30-60 minutes before the ceremony begins can be added for an additional $50.

What do you mean by a Custom Ceremony?
You have the ability to customize and personalize each and every part of the ceremony.  For example, you might decide to have an over-arching theme for your wedding, add in readings or songs, and have us tell your love story, give friends and family roles in the ceremony, or choose to write your own vows.  You might also want to add a ritual like a love letter, tree planting, wine box, sand ceremony, unity candle, or handfasting- just a few of the many meaningful rituals to choose from our large packet of wedding options.  Or you might feel your style is to keep it very simple, short and sweet.  We’ll determine all that in our second meeting together and create the ceremony that has you and your guests saying at the end, “that was perfect!”

Why do you charge the fee you do?
When it comes down to it, your ceremony is the wedding and the heart of the day, and our commitment is to ensure that it is the most meaningful experience you can have.  Our ceremony fee reflects the fact that we are there to answer your questions via phone calls and emails in the upcoming weeks and months leading up to your wedding.  We will set up multiple appointments with you, spend hours creating a unique ceremony just for you, will orchestrate the flow of your rehearsal, arrive at least 30-minutes before your ceremony begins, perform your ceremony to the best of our ability, file your wedding license, and email you information about changing your name a few days after your wedding.  All this adds up to a great number of hours we invest with each and every couple.

Is there a charge for travel?
We give you 50-miles round trip included in the fee.  Anything beyond that is charged $1/mile from the point of origin.  We can figure out the additional mileage for you ahead of time so you are fully aware of the total cost.

Is there a deposit?
Yes, a non-refundable deposit for half of the fee is required when you book us.  Once you have mailed Rev. Pat your Wedding Application & Contract and deposit, your date is officially saved on our calendar.  The balance of your wedding fee (the second half of your payment and mileage, if applicable) is due at least four weeks before the wedding day.

What is your cancellation policy?
In the unfortunate event that your wedding needs to be postponed or canceled, the initial deposit is non-refundable, although the second half of your fee will be returned.

What happens if you can’t perform the ceremony?
In the unlikely event that your contracted Koru officiant is no longer able to perform your ceremony due unforeseen circumstances, such as an illness or an emergency, we will work within our Koru officiants to find a replacement.  If all Koru officiants are booked we will provide a list of other potential officiants who would be welcome to use the Koru ceremony specifically written for you.  The initial deposit is non-refundable, although the second half of the payment will be returned.

Do you perform ceremonies for same-sex couples?
Yes, we have been officiating commitment ceremonies for same-sex couples for a number of years before it became legal to marry in 2015.

How far in advance do we need to book with you?
You can book anywhere from the week or two before the wedding to all the way up to a year or more.  Keep in mind that our schedules fill up quickly during wedding season (May-October), so contacting us sooner versus later is always the best option.

Do you have other wedding professionals you work with?
We have a list of recommendations that we are happy to share with you. This list of vendors are provided as a resource in case you need help in finding photographers, florists, musicians, etc.  These are fellow professionals whose work we are fans of and whom we find to be excellent to work with.
